Common Sense but Not Common to All

by:  Kent Mervin B. Pineda BSN 812

On the Sixth day of creation, God made the human beings: bestowing them with life, intellect and freewill. And in that intellect was the common sense, which is said to be the invulnerable part of his structure... but not for now.

In today’s time, a person’s common sense is being corrupted and vanishing due to different factors. Little by little, the individual becomes ignorant.

Taken for example a student who has a candy wrapper. Even though he knew that he should put it to trash or if not available put it on his pocket for later disposal, he will hesitate to do it for his common sense is not being used properly and it is being corrupted. Another is a certain individual saying “ Pagbilan nga po ng TRUST condom at HOPE cigarette.” Who will think that today, great virtues that are supposed to be possessed by a person would be associated to things, which bring about evil and danger, both physical and spiritual dimensions?

What has our world come to? Does it now prove that change is really the only thing certain in this world? What happened to the common sense that God gave us? Has it descended from the head to heel?

Dear people, there are only two reasons why all of these are happening. It is because of sophistication and materialism. Two factors indeed that affected the sense that was before common, but now is only possessed by a few.

Our experiences from antiquity up to now somehow teaches us not to weigh things anymore, because we presumed that we already know how to deal with I, since he has already experienced it in the pass. No need to think. No more of that 77 times of thinking, this is now where materialism takes the scene. In today’s epoch, instant things are very much well appreciated: instant noodles, message, drink, love, marriage and even baby, and especially the instant common sense. Where analysis and careful thought is gone, what is left is hasty and erroneous thinking.

Now, we know why our common sense seems to be not common. Our common sense is being vanished by worldliness. What is needed now is unity and prayer that we may go back to our senses --- and seek Him who is the source of all wisdom and righteousness. And if you are one of those who are losing this basic life essential, be alarmed. There’s something to be done!

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE

St. Luke once said in the Gospel “For there is nothing impossible with God.” Indeed true, for all these things we see, feel, smell, hear and taste are all made possible because of God. Even we, existing in this vast world, is because of God’s majestic power.

Looking back with all the paintings and sculpture we had talked about there is this one painting that gets my nerves back to its senses, its no other than the famous Creation of Adam which is part of the paintings in the Sistine Chapel painted by Michelangelo. I don’t know why the first time I saw this painting I felt that God does really exist. That He is always there on my side watching me.

The painting is about the Creation of Adam or the creation of man, hence; the entire human race. The painting depicts the scene on how God gave life to Adam, giving him breath, giving him LIFE. The painting even though not that literal shows how God does really created man out of His own image.

Moreover, for me the painting is a great way for us to reflect on how enormous God does loves each and every one of us. That we are leaving in this world because of His love, giving us the most precious gift of all --- LIFE!

On the other hand, the said painting is for religious purposes. It was created to portray artistically on how human came about according to Biblical text. It was painted so that even through the use of visual arts people can be able to know what really happens in the creation.

At the end of the day, the painting even not yet painted by Michelangelo is already planned by God to be there, just like any other things and situations in this world. The Creation of Adam to be painted by a great artist and be artistically done is for us to be reminded that we owe something to God! And once more to jog our memory that there is really nothing impossible with God!

LOVE

Love is never easy, but
It turns life into song.
There is no bit of circumstance
That love cannot transform.

There is no weary moment
Of anger or despair
That love cannot convert to grace
And render whole and fair.

How passionate the paradise
That comes from knowing well
That someone in your happiness
Finds pleasure for himself.

How sweet the gift of giving to
Someone who gives to you,
A selflessness that gives to self
More self than self is due.

With all the searing madness of
The world from day to day,
And all the dreary sadness that
No joy can take away,

There is one truth more beautiful
Than anyone can bear:
That two can trust that when they turn
They'll find the other there.
